To read foreign websites via the Tsinghua network, you need a Tsinghua account ID and password. Your account is charged 1 RMB Yuan per megabyte (MB) that you read from foreign websites.

You also need to configure your account to read foreign websites. Go to https://usereg.tsinghua.edu.cn and click on "Account Management" to apply for access to websites outside China. You only have to do this once.

Once this is done, you can read foreign websites by logging on using Open Logon Mode. You can do this in either of two ways:

  • at https://usereg.tsinghua.edu.cn; or

  • by running TUNET.EXE. (Note that this application appears not to work with some U.S. versions of Windows.) If this application is not already installed on your computer, you can download it from https://usereg.tsinghua.edu.cn/TUNet.exe or from ftp://ftp.tsinghua.edu.cn/pub/Networks/TUNET/TUNet20102/TUNet.exe.
